Free Family Learning Experiences You Won’t Want to Miss

By Angie Matthiessen, Chief Executive Officer

As parents, we all want to give our children opportunities to grow, explore their interests, and build confidence. Yet between busy schedules and rising costs, it can be challenging to find experiences that feel both meaningful and accessible.

That is what makes the fourth annual Suncoast Remake Learning Days 2026 such a gift to our community. Enjoy a free family festival with hundreds of events to choose from.

Now through May 2, families can take part in a series of free, hands on experiences. These are not passive activities-children are encouraged to create, experiment, and discover in ways that stay with them long after the moment has passed.

As a parent, I have always believed that some of the most important learning happens outside of traditional settings. It happens when a child tries something new, asks an unexpected question, or begins to see the world through a different lens. These are the experiences that help shape confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

Remake Learning Days creates space for exactly that.

Across Charlotte County, families will find events centered around science, art, nature, and innovation. Your child may enjoy crafting a bracelet at The Visual Arts Center, A Glow & Flow Dance & Pizza Party at Meadow Park Elementary, or an interactive STEAM night learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, each event offers an opportunity to explore new interests and spend quality time together. Best of all, these events are offered at no cost, ensuring every family has the opportunity to participate.

Equally important as the learning is the connection these moments create. In a time when distractions are constant and schedules are full, setting aside intentional time with our children matters. Being present as they explore, create, and discover sends a powerful message—that their growth, their ideas, and their experiences are worth our attention.

At United Way Charlotte County, we are proud to support opportunities like Remake Learning Days because they reflect what strong communities are built on: access, engagement, and shared experiences that bring people together. When families are supported and children are encouraged to reach their potential, the entire community benefits.

I encourage families to explore the events happening between now and May 2nd across four counties, Charlotte, Desoto, Manatee, and Sarasota. Choose one that speaks to your child’s interests or simply try something new, make a day trip adventure to another county. You may find that what seems like a simple outing becomes a meaningful memory.

Sometimes, the most impactful moments are not the ones we plan extensively, but the ones we choose to step into.
