The UWCC leads a coalition with Charlotte County Public Schools, the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club, and community volunteers. It funds literacy initiatives, coordinating volunteer efforts in after-school programs. The focus is on personalized mentoring to boost struggling readers' confidence. Volunteers and students also engage in after-school activities at the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA.

Innovation: Providing Charlotte County students with the tools and support they need to achieve grade-level reading and promotion. This collaboration provides students with a mentor who recognizes both common and child-specific barriers to reading success and guides the child down the path to overcoming those barriers.
Reading Buddies
Reading Buddies is a volunteer-driven program that pairs caring adults with young students to
foster a love for reading, build literacy skills, and boost confidence. Through weekly one-on-one
reading sessions, volunteers and students gather at the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA for after-school programs.
