We laugh. We connect. We cheer each other on. We share ideas, stories and, sometimes, a little shopping advice! And when we come together with a purpose, we can make an incredible difference in our community.
That is exactly why Women United created Power of the Purse.
On October 23, Women United will host our second annual Power of the Purse, bringing women together for an afternoon of fun, friendship and philanthropy at Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor.
And I have to admit—I am really looking forward to it.
Last year, I attended our first Power of the Purse and came home with what I think is one of the coolest purses I own. I am already wondering what might catch my eye this year!
That is part of what makes this event so much fun. Get dressed up, enjoy the beautiful setting at Sunseeker, spend time with friends, enjoy great food and perhaps find a fabulous handbag to take home.
And then there are our models.
Forget the typical runway. Local Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office officers will step out of their usual roles and onto the runway to model our featured handbags in the live auction. I have a feeling they are going to have just as much fun as we are!
Sean McLaughlin, Executive Director of the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce, will keep us entertained as our emcee, bringing plenty of energy, personality and laughs to the afternoon.
The purses are just the beginning.
Power of the Purse is a fundraiser for Women United’s work to strengthen families and create opportunities for children in Charlotte County. Funds raised support our Family Empowerment work, including programs that help families build financial stability and overcome barriers. They also support our Children’s Enrichment Fund and our new Community School initiative at Peace River Elementary.
These are investments that can make a meaningful difference for children and families right here in our community.
You do not have to already be involved with Women United to join us. Come with your best friend, sister, mother or coworkers—or come on your own and meet women from across our community.
Come for the handbags, food, fun and beautiful setting. Stay for the purpose behind it all.
