United Way of Charlotte County Announces New Board President and New Board of Directors Appointments

Big changes are happening for one of the strongest and most influential boards in Charlotte County. Julie Mathis, upon fulfilling her two-year commitment as Board President, passed the gavel to Harvey Goldberg, former Mayor, City of Punta Gorda. At the United Way of Charlotte County (UWCC) Annual Meeting & Spirit Awards Breakfast, Mr. Goldberg humbly and officially accepted the responsibility of leading the UWCC Board through a new Fight/Win plan to fully stamp out poverty in Charlotte County.

Mr. Goldberg remarked, “We’re seeing the impressive results of the committed focus on changing the game through the individual and collaborative programs of our terrific funded partner agencies. None of this work and accomplishments would be possible without the amazing teams of our tremendous donors, sponsors and volunteers. We will also continue our work with other partner agencies across the county and region to move the needle forward.”

In addition to Mr. Goldberg stepping up, three new board members were appointed, adding to the diversity which the United Way embraces. Ms. Erin Gant (Riverside Realty), Ms. Charlotte Miller (Florida Power & Light) and Mr. Bill Wood (former physician) were welcomed by their fellow board members also known as #GAMECHANGERS.

Angie Matthiessen, Executive Director for the United Way of Charlotte County, noted, “Although we are losing fantastic stewards- in those stepping down- we are very excited to welcome these new additions and know they will have a tremendous impact on our efforts.”

The Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club hosted the Annual Meeting & Spirits Award Breakfast on Friday, May 11th. Special thanks go to the gracious sponsors Florida Power & Light, Western Michigan University and Merrill Lynch. Over 150 guests attended as #GAMECHANGERS were honored.  Volunteers, donors, and sponsors alike were recognized for making a difference over the last year. Corporate Campaign awards were given to the top ten companies, and the ever-constant Publix Super Markets was #1 in Charlotte County. New awards presented this year included:

-Spirit of VITA: Steve Vito (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program)
-Community Superhero: Randy Williams of Publix Super Markets
-Re-invigorated Campaign: SunCoast Media Group
Mary Skaggs accepted the award on behalf of SunCoast Media Group and also received a personal award for Outstanding Campaign Coordinator.
