#BeTheOne #BeUnited
Be a local hero and make a difference in the life of ALICE.

We transform local lives every day. Local lives are changing rapidly and dramatically. Will you be a local hero and help us mobilize our community? ALICE's life just got harder and we need to respond. It just takes ONE hero. Together we can unite for a stronger community.

The Giving Challenge supports our mission and work responding to COVID-19 with our Community Collaborations, VITA, and Season of Sharing, – as a community, we are all mobilizing to help ALICE and will continue to do so.

The 2020 Giving Challenge is a 24-hour online event supporting more than 700 nonprofits serving Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties in Florida. For 40 years, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has matched donors with cause, creating lasting impact across generations. This year they announced the theme to be the one to make a difference. We agree with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County that each one of us has the potential to impact a person, a cause, a community. Since 2012, donors have provided more than $40 million in unrestricted funding to support nonprofts listed on The Giving Partner. The next Giving Challange is sched for April 28-29, 2020 from noon to noon. The Patterson Foundation supports strengthened giving during the Giving Challenge by providing matching challenges and prizes that encourage people to be generous. Past matches have encouraged nonprofts to cultivate new and existing donors during the challenge and beyond.

This year, we are thankful to FPL for providing matching funds up to $5,000 to help care for our most vulnerable in Charlotte County during this COVID-19 pandemic. FPL is committed to helping our neighbors during this crisis to provide critical support to those struggling to meet their basic needs, which is why they have partnered with UWCC to be a hero for ALICE in Charlotte County. This means that your gift of $25-$100 will be matched per donor by both of our sponsors. This is a 2:1 match. We are very happy to announce Charlotte Miller, FPL External Affairs Mgr., SW Fla as our new 2020-2021 Board President! Charlotte has been on our UWCC Board for two years and we are proud to welcome her during this exciting 2020 Giving Challenge.

ALICE…and the devastating impact Coronavirus is spreading throughout Charlotte County.

ALICE (Asset, Limited, Income, Constrained, Employed) represents those in our community who on a regular basis work pay check to pay check. ALICE is hurting and will continue hurting through this difficult time. We are in the midst of a very scary time for our neighbor ALICE. This is our time to ensure our community, with our ALICE population most at-heart are heard by those who sometimes forget the Community Collaborations that pick up the pieces of shattered lives and help people put them back together again. What we are currently experiencing because of a health pandemic... fear, loss of connections, loss of resources and lack of security... that is what ALICE faces daily.

Stay home, enjoy your family, support our neighbors online in Charlotte County with The Giving Challenge. The need is there. The help is there. All that's missing is your contribution. Please, let's not close our doors or hearts on ALICE or those with financial hardships due to COVID-19.

Who is Alice?

Alice is our neighbor. ALICE (Asset, Limited, Income, Constrained, Employed)

We are not taking this lightly but ALICE is still working. They have no choice because if they do take time off, they cannot make ends meet. What's worse is if they are unable to continue through this difficult time, they will most certainly struggle and be in a financial crisis. We approach a very scary time for our neighbor ALICE. She remains paycheck-to-paycheck and she needs you now, more than ever. What we are currently experiencing because of a health pandemic... fear, loss of connections, loss of resources and lack of security... that is what ALICE faces daily. Our current state can be measured in days and weeks. For ALICE, it is counted in years. Community is at the heart of everything we do. Let's take a deep breath, remember that we lift ourselves up, as we lift up others. Let's not close our doors or hearts on ALICE.
